About this piece
Black-and-white snapshot photograph, about 4.6 x 3.5 inches, of a live stage show: two women performers in leotard-style costumes in front of a small dance band with drums, saxophone and trumpet, the musicians in bow ties. A pencil note on the back reads "taken at a Service Club, Korea 1955" as best it can be read. Condition is fair: heavy emulsion cracking with some image loss on the right half, a vertical crease, and corner wear.
The performer at left poses with a thumbs-up; the one at right wears long sleeves or gloves and points toward the camera. The drummer sits behind the left performer, the saxophonist at center and a trumpeter at right, and the bandstand fronts are lettered "NEW" with an emblem.
About the back note: the word Korea is written over another word and the club word is partly unclear, so the reading is offered as it appears, not as a confirmed location. It appears to be a period snapshot of the kind of live entertainment staged for servicemen in the 1950s.
Back shows creasing, toning and staining. A candid, unposed piece of mid-century stage and dance-band history.
