About this piece

Diamond Laughs, or The Humor of Baseball, compiled by A. K. "Rosey" Rowswell, illustrations by Jack Berger, copyright 1948 A. K. Rowswell, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Stapled softcover booklet "Distributed by The Fort Pitt Brewing Company, Makers of Fort Pitt Beer, Old Shay Beer & Ale," with a cartoon ballplayer and umpire on the cover. About 5.6 x 7.4 inches. Used condition: a greenish stain on the front cover across the word LAUGHS that shows slightly through, a small brown spot on the introduction page, light edge wear and mild toning.

The inside front cover carries a Fort Pitt "The Better Beer! Perfectly Balanced!" ad with a waitress, and the back cover an Old Shay ad announcing the beer "now available in streamlined, steel cans." The brewery's introduction refers to its Pittsburgh Pirates broadcasts.

Rosey Rowswell was the beloved radio voice of the Pittsburgh Pirates, famous for his home-run call. A great crossover piece for Pirates, baseball broadcasting and breweriana collectors.
