About this piece

Civil War-year 1865 deed (indenture) for land in Kiskiminetas Township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania. Made in March 1865 between Simon Hine and Hannah his wife, of Westmoreland County, of the first part, and Robert McBeaty (as read) of Armstrong County, of the second part, for twenty-five dollars. Printed form by W. G. Johnston & Co., Printers & Booksellers, 57 Wood St., Pittsburgh, completed in ink, folded to about 4.1 x 8.5 inches. Used condition: fold lines with light wear at the folds, toning and some foxing, a small paper remnant stuck near one fold.

The parcel is described by metes and bounds, beginning at a white oak at the land of William Gallagher, and containing five acres, part of a larger tract conveyed by Robert McBeaty as administrator of the estate of Jacob Bear (as read) to Simon Hine in March 1864, recorded in Deed Book Vol. 27. The certificate reads "Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Armstrong County," recorded September 5, 1865 in Deed Book Vol. 30, page 429, signed by the Recorder (Bowman), with the embossed seal of the office.

Docketed on the outside "Deed, Simon Hine & Wife to Robert McBeaty, Filed 5th September 1865." Great for Armstrong and Westmoreland County land and family researchers.
