About this piece
Two issues of The Spearhead, the newspaper "Published by the Officers and Men of Fort Sam Houston, Texas," with the 2nd Division Indian-head star insignia in the masthead, from the first weeks of America's entry into WWII. Each is a single folded sheet, about 11 x 9 inches folded. Used, with toning, fold wear, edge chips and small tears — see condition notes.
• Volume I, No. 34, Friday, December 12, 1941 — five days after Pearl Harbor. Front page "All Star Gridders Put the 2nd Division in the Sugar Bowl" with team portraits, plus the 2nd vs 45th Division 8th Corps title game at Alamo Stadium, the USO show "Razzle Dazzle," Warrant Officer applications and a 38th Infantry ROTC tour.
• Volume II, No. 2, Friday, February 13, 1942 — "Crosby, Hope, Weissmuller in Sports Arena Friday Night" with photos of Bing Crosby, Bob Hope and Johnny Weissmuller, Rosalind Russell appearing in person with "Funzafire," a war column on the fall of Singapore, and a named list of 22 men leaving for OCS at Fort Benning.
