About this piece

Lot of four 1860s-era British stereoviews on flat card mounts, about 6.9 x 3.3 inches each: a McGlashon's Scottish Stereographs view of Edinburgh and three hand-tinted London Stereoscopic Co. views, including Ventnor and Fountains Abbey. Condition is mixed, from decent to heavily foxed, as noted for each card below.

• McGlashon's Scottish Stereographs, "Realities of the Waverley Novels, Burns' Poems, Scottish Songs, &c.": Old Town of Edinburgh, No. 4, with a printed descriptive label on the back. Heavy foxing and a water stain on the back.
• London Stereoscopic Co., hand-tinted: Ventnor, with back text on the town's salubrity and beauty of situation. Decent condition.
• London Stereoscopic Company, 54 Cheapside label, hand-tinted: No. 222 Fountains Abbey, the Church from the south-west. Green retailer label on the back: M. I. Franklin, Optician, 112 S Fourth St. Philad'a. Losses at the left corners; caption partly rubbed.
• London Stereoscopic Co. blindstamp, hand-tinted: tiered fountain in a formal garden, no caption. Tint faded and blotchy, heavy foxing.

Ventnor is on the Isle of Wight and Fountains Abbey is in North Yorkshire. Old pencil numbers on some backs.
