About this piece
Congressional free frank cover signed "Jennings Randolph" with printed "M.C." below, on a "Congress of the United States, House of Representatives, Official Business, Free" corner card envelope. Machine cancel Washington, D.C. May 19, 3 PM, 193_ (last digit of the year is unclear), with a "Notify Your Correspondents of Change of Address" slogan. Typed address to Mr. B. S. Cleaver, Davis, West Virginia. About 6.7 x 3.9 inches. Light toning, a few small spots and light edge wear.
The frank is signed in blue ink across the cancel. Randolph represented West Virginia in the House from 1933 to 1947, later served as a U.S. Senator, and is known as the father of the 26th Amendment. Congressional franks of this period were sometimes signed by office staff, so this is offered as a signed frank, not an authenticated autograph.
A nice piece of West Virginia political and postal history, addressed to the small Tucker County town of Davis.
