About this piece
Vintage promotional fold-out brochure, Pittsburgh The Ideal City - To Live, To Work, To Play, printed in red and black, about 4.1 x 8.9 inches folded. The cover shows a glowing steel mill ladle and the back the University of Pittsburgh's Cathedral of Learning, marked Litho in U.S.A. No date is printed; the photos and style suggest the 1940s. Used condition with small edge chips, small white surface losses on the front cover and a curved mark and crease on the back.
Inside, a two-page aerial view of Pittsburgh's famous Golden Triangle, "where commerce joins with education and research." Further panels, The Community for Modern Living and Exceptional Educational Opportunities, picture homes, apartment buildings and Chatham Village, plus Pitt's Cathedral of Learning, the Heinz Memorial Chapel, Pennsylvania College for Women, Carnegie Tech, Duquesne University and Shady Side Academy.
A nice piece of mid-century Pittsburgh civic boosterism for collectors of Pennsylvania, steel industry and University of Pittsburgh history.
