About this piece
Lot of 4 chrome roadside postcards: three of the Glass House restaurant built over the Will Rogers Turnpike at Vinita, Oklahoma (two night views and the Broiler Room dining room), plus Tijeras Canyon near Albuquerque, New Mexico, whose back calls it "Famous U.S. Hwy. 66." Standard size, about 3.5 x 5.5 inches. All four are unposted; three have short pencil or ink notes on the back, and condition is good for their age apart from the flaws listed below.
• Glass House night view with light-streaked traffic under the arch. Plastichrome by Colourpicture Publishers, Boston, P56019, printed for Interstate Hosts, Inc., Los Angeles, with the Host logo. Back describes the "Famous Interstate Hosts Restaurant high above the Will Rogers Turnpike at Vinita, Oklahoma." Note on back: "Saw this in 1964 / Had lunch here." Chip at the lower right corner.
• The Glass House, Will Rogers Turnpike, second night view. Bob Taylor Photography, Cordell, Oklahoma, 11LC-1380, Host logo. Note on back: "Had lunch here." Small ink mark in the sky at upper left.
• Broiler Room dining room in the Glass House, with a chef at the grill and a wall of windows. Bob Taylor Photography, 11LC-1258. Note on back: "Had lunch here in Glass House over highway."
• Tijeras Canyon, Albuquerque. Back: "Scenic Tijeras Canyon and Famous U.S. Hwy. 66 Approaching Albuquerque, New Mexico." Plastichrome, published by Petley Studios, Albuquerque, P63460. Clean back.
