About this piece
Original program for the City of Pittsburgh's July 4, 1975 Bicentennial Kickoff Celebration, a folded sheet printed in blue on white with the American Revolution Bicentennial 1776-1976 star logo and the line Pittsburgh, A Bicentennial Community. Opens to about 8.6 x 13.7 inches. Condition: fold lines, light toning and minor edge wear; no tears visible in the photos.
Inside is the full day's schedule: Mayor Pete Flaherty opening the celebration with the ringing of a 2,000-pound Liberty Bell replica on the Fifth Avenue Mall at Wood Street, an Army Reserve Bicentennial Color Guard, 1,000 balloons released over the Golden Triangle, and three entertainment stages listing local performers, dance troupes and radio and TV personalities from WTAE, KDKA and KQV.
Also listed: nationality food and craft booths (Greek, Lithuanian, Serbian, Lebanese, Croatian, Slovak, Irish, Ukrainian and more), dozens of Pittsburgh artists by name, a Children's Block, special exhibits on the Smithfield Street and Fifth Avenue malls, PAT bus exhibits, events at Point State Park, and in-store activities at Joseph Horne's, Kaufmann's and Gimbels.
A nice piece of downtown Pittsburgh and Bicentennial history.
