About this piece
A 1950 Hong Kong air letter (aerogramme) with the imprinted 40-cent King George VI stamp, cancelled with a Hong Kong circular date stamp of 2 June 1950. It is addressed in ink to Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Richmond, 435 Berkeley Ave., Claremont, California, U.S.A., and the sender's panel on the back reads "Frank, Lingnan University, Canton, China." About 5.1 x 4.1 inches folded. Condition: used and opened along the cut lines with ragged opening edges, fold creases and light toning.
The form is printed "By Air Mail," "Hong Kong," and "Air Letter," with the notice that anything enclosed will send it by ordinary mail, and the back carries the printed folding and "to open cut here" directions.
Lingnan University in Canton was a Christian college with long American ties, and this was written from there in mid-1950, months after the change of government in China. A good piece for Hong Kong and China postal history, missionary and college history, or Claremont, California collectors.
