About this piece
An original 1958 official U.S. Navy portrait photograph of Harry L. Claar, Chief Aviation Boatswain Mate, in khaki uniform with a chief petty officer's cap device, with his typed name-and-rate label attached at the bottom of the image. The back carries the official stamp "Official Photographs ... by order Chief of Naval Operations, U.S. Naval Station, Navy #3080, Midway Island," with a handwritten date of 6-18-58 and the subject noted as a board photo of Claar, H. L., ABC. About 4 x 5.1 inches. Condition: corner chips and creases, a crack at upper right, tape stain over the label, and a strip of paper loss and residue on the back that obscures part of the stamp.
An identified, dated Cold War-era Navy portrait from Naval Station Midway, a nice piece for Midway Island and naval aviation collectors or Claar family genealogy.
