About this piece
Early printed postcard titled "A Shady Lane," showing a curving park path under birch and leafy trees with flowering shrubs, and two women in long red skirts walking in the distance. The scene sits in an arched frame on a gray-gold border with a dark blue decorative title band. Marked "Series No. 65" on the back; no publisher name printed. Standard size, about 3.5 x 5.5 inches, divided back with an ornate "Post Card" heading. Posted; used condition with corner and edge wear and a small dark mark at the right edge.
Postmarked Bloomington, Ill., Aug 15, 1909, with a flag machine cancel and a 1-cent green Franklin stamp. Addressed in faded pencil-violet ink to Mr. H. C. Smith, Tolono, Ills. The short message hopes "this will find you all enjoying good health," says "Willie and I are well," and is signed with best wishes from a niece (the name appears to be Lucinda).
A pleasant Edwardian-era scenic card with a clean Illinois postal history.
