Antique Birthday Greeting postcard with heavily embossed bronze-gilt ivy leaves and berries, a blue cord bow, and a diamond-shaped inset of a country mill with a water wheel, fence and lane. Textured peach border. Divided back marked "Series 1403 (4 Des.)" with a small diamond publisher logo and "Printed in Germany." Standard 3.5 x 5.5 inch size, vertical format. Condition: used, with light corner wear, a small red pencil mark and faint purple ink smudges on the front, a faint pencil name in the bottom margin, and light toning.

The back has no stamp or postmark, so it was likely hand-delivered or mailed in an envelope. The pencil message reads "To my Granddaughter for her Birthday, wish you a happy day and lots of them, hope you are well," signed Esther Burton, and addressed to Mary Esther Burton, 203 Wilson St, Salem, O.

A nice family birthday greeting from grandmother to granddaughter, with crisp embossing.
