Antique Happy Birthday greeting postcard with heavily embossed red roses and green stems laid across a dark ground, with a gilt-framed inset view of a lighthouse and a sailboat on calm water. "Happy Birthday" is embossed in silver-gilt lettering at the bottom. Divided back, printed in Germany, standard 3.5 x 5.5 inch size. Condition: postally used with light corner and edge wear, a small edge nick at upper right, and light toning on the back.

The back is postmarked Salem, Ohio, Jan 30, 1909, 11 AM, with a flag machine cancel and a green 1 cent Franklin stamp (Series 1902). The pencil message reads "A happy birthday to you. From brother," addressed to Mary Esther Burton, 203 Wilson St, Salem, Ohio.

A nice Golden Age birthday card from a family correspondence group, with the embossing still crisp on both sides.
