About this piece
Antique St. Patrick's Day postcard reading "St. Patrick's Day Greetings," with a horseshoe of shamrocks hung by a green ribbon from a shillelagh, framing a small Irish cottage and countryside scene, and the verse "Pretty little shamrock, thee we adore, Let us shout and be joyous, this day the more." Numbered 431, embossed, divided back with "Post Card / Karte / Carte" heading, standard size about 5.5 x 3.5 inches. Unposted. Condition: used, with edge and corner wear, a faint stain at the lower left of the back, and pencil writing on both sides.
The word "mama" is written in pencil below the verse on the front. The back is inscribed in pencil "from Mama" and addressed to "Mary Esther Burton," with no stamp or postmark, so it appears to have been hand delivered. A pencil notation is in the stamp box.
Publisher is not named on the card. A pleasant green-and-gold early holiday card from a family group sent to Mary Esther Burton.
