About this piece
Antique postcard of the People's Gas Building, Chicago, Ill., shown towering over a busy street filled with early automobiles, horse-drawn wagons and pedestrians. Published by United Post Card and Novelty Co., Chicago. Standard size, divided back, vertical format, postally used. Condition is fair: a patch of surface paper loss along the left edge of the front, rounded corners and edge wear; see photos.
Postmarked Chicago, Ill., December 1910, with a green one-cent Franklin stamp, addressed to Salem, Ohio, Route 5. The writer, signed Mabel, calls it one of the newest and finest buildings in the city, notes that the pillars are each a single piece of granite and that it was a sight to see them handled, and asks whether "your Ma" is getting ready for Christmas.
A nice period message about the building's construction, for Chicago and architecture collectors.
