About this piece
A family correspondence lot of 12 postally used pieces (10 envelopes and 2 postal cards), all addressed to Mrs. A.A. Hoskins or Mr. & Mrs. A.A. Hoskins, spanning 1917 to 1944. The highlight is three World War I covers from Camp Shelby, postmarked Hattiesburg, Miss., in Dec. 1917 and Feb. and Mar. 1918: two with printed red-white-and-blue flag corner designs (one cancelled at the Shelby Br. station) and one on YMCA "With the Colors" soldier stationery. Postal card measures about 5.6 x 3.6 in. Condition: used, with opened and ragged edges, tears at the right side of several envelopes, toning and light soiling.
Contents as pictured:
• 3 WWI covers from Hattiesburg, Miss. to Spencer Station, Ohio (1917–1918), Washington 1c, 2c and 3c stamps
• 6 pieces from Hollidays Cove, W. Va. (1920s) to R.D. #1, Buena Vista, Fla., c/o G.E. Rimer, including one postal card and one with a Mrs. R.G. Hall return address
• 2 covers to Quaker City, Ohio, one on a gray embossed envelope
• 1 postal card, Five Forks, W. Va., April 1, 1944, to 318 High St., Barnesville, Ohio
A nice small archive following one family across addresses in Ohio and Florida, with WWI Camp Shelby training-camp mail from Mississippi. Good for postal history, WWI home-front and Ohio or West Virginia family history collectors.
