About this piece
Vintage visitor brochure, "The Nationality Classrooms at the University of Pittsburgh," a folded pale blue textured-stock leaflet with the University of Pittsburgh seal on the cover. About 4.2 x 9.1 inches folded. Condition: used but clean, with light handling wear, a small crease near the top of the cover and soft fold lines.
Inside are sections on the Classrooms, the Nationality Committees and Quo Vadis, the student guide organization, describing the rooms that encircle the Commons Room of the Cathedral of Learning. The back lists eighteen rooms with their completion years, from the 1938 German, Hungarian, Russian, Scottish and Swedish rooms through the Irish Classroom of 1957, plus tour hours and how to book group tours at the Cathedral of Learning.
The eighteen-room list and the note that new rooms were planned date it before the later expansion of the program; the Pittsburgh 15213 ZIP code places it after 1963. A nice piece for Pitt alumni, Pittsburgh history and architecture collectors, and anyone with family ties to one of the ethnic communities represented.
