About this piece
Small 1960 archive from Monongahela Power Company, Fairmont, W. Va., sent as a follow-up to an industrial realtors' tour. Includes: a typed note on the letterhead of Allan W. Babcock, Industrial Development Representative, dated 10/3, to "Bill," enclosing pictures and news stories from "our recent SIR tour," initialed in ink; a printed Area Development staff memorandum listing representatives and phone numbers at Fairmont, Clarksburg, Elkins, Morgantown, Parkersburg and Weirton; a newspaper clipping, "Industrial Realtors Visit Valley"; and the "Press Prevue" booklet for Willow Island Station Unit No. 2, dated September 22, 1960. Note about 3.6 x 6.7 inches. Condition: used; the note has a small chip at the lower edge, the clipping is toned with a torn lower corner, and the booklet has light wear.
The clipping shows the realtors in front of an Allegheny Airlines plane at Wood County Airport before a bus tour of plants around Parkersburg, and names members of the Western Pennsylvania chapter, Society of Industrial Realtors, including men from U.S. Steel, Equitable Life and the Pittsburgh Press. The booklet details the $26.6 million coal-fired Unit No. 2, with a General Electric turbine and Cyclone furnaces, and the Ohio Valley's postwar industrial boom.
Great for West Virginia, Ohio Valley, electric utility, coal and industrial history collectors.
