About this piece
Vintage linen postcard, "War Admiral, Lexington, Ky. - 37," showing the famous thoroughbred racehorse standing in a halter beside a white plank fence on a Kentucky horse farm. Standard size, about 3.5 x 5.5 inches, postally used in the 1940s. Condition is good with light corner wear and a few small surface marks; the back has a faint pencil message and address.
The printed back gives War Admiral's record: undefeated as a three year old, 21 wins in 26 starts, winnings of $273,240, voted outstanding thoroughbred of 1937, winner of the $50,000 Widener Cup at Hialeah in 1938, plus the Jockey Club Gold Cup, Saratoga Cup, Whitney Stakes and more. Published by Ferguson News Co., Lexington, Ky. (AJY), number 19891N.
Postmarked Lexington, Ky., October 12, with a 1 cent George Washington stamp, addressed to St. Elmo, Illinois. The young writer says they have seen a lot of horses and ponies and some mountains, and are going to the Renfro Valley Barn Dance. A nice piece for horse racing, thoroughbred and Kentucky collectors.
