About this piece

Antique printed color postcard captioned "Our Lady of Lourdes, West Baden, Ind. - The Carlsbad of America," showing the white church with a tall red steeple and clock tower on a wooded hillside with long stone stairways. Standard size, vertical view, about 3.5 x 5.5 inches, divided back. Postally used with a green 1 cent Washington stamp and an Anderson, Ind. machine cancel dated Oct 10, 1916. Condition is fair: handwriting in ink across the top of the picture, a crease at upper right, a crease across the lower left of the back, a small spot and corner wear, see photos.

The ink message is dated Oct 9-16 from 1316 W. 14 St., Anderson, Ind., and addressed to Miss Elma Fort, Casey, Illinois. The writer mentions needing rain, not liking living there very well, and asks about Sunday School, the new superintendent and her teacher. A publisher imprint for West Baden and "Plate 6279" appear on the back.

Nice for collectors of West Baden Springs and French Lick resort history, Orange County Indiana, and Catholic church postcards.
