About this piece

Real photo postcard showing the interior of a Catholic church, captioned by hand in the negative "Interior Catholic Church" and "Tolono Ill #16". The view looks down the center aisle between rows of wooden pews to an ornate white high altar with statues, flanked by two side altars, painted angel medallions and stenciled decoration on the walls and ceiling. Standard size, about 3.5 x 5.5 inches. Postally used; overall toning, corner wear and small creases, with a short crease at lower right and light spotting on the back.

The divided back reads "Post Card / Correspondence / Address Only" and carries a green 1 cent Franklin stamp with an Illinois circular postmark (town and date mostly unreadable). The message reads in part "Dear Daisy: Received your letter... I am too busy to write a letter just now, so will send one by card. With Love from Elsie", addressed to Mrs. E. S. Nichols(?), Lake Bluff, Ills.

A detailed small-town church interior for collectors of Illinois real photos, Champaign County history, or Catholic church architecture.
