About this piece
Real photo postcard (RPPC) of a white frame church with a belfry, arched windows and a chimney, with a large crowd of men, women and children in period dress gathered at the entrance under a big shade tree. A wire hoop fence runs along the dirt road in the foreground. No caption or place name appears on the front or back, so the location is unidentified. Standard 3.5 x 5.5 in, unposted. Fair vintage condition with a diagonal crease across the upper left corner, heavy toning and foxing, stains on the front border and back, and edge and corner wear.
Back: printed POST CARD heading with "Correspondence Here" and "Name and Address Here" divided back. AZO stamp box with triangles pointing up in all four corners, the pattern commonly dated to about 1904-1918. No writing, stamp or postmark.
A lively early gathering scene, possibly a church event, homecoming or funeral, for collectors of church RPPCs and small-town Americana.
