About this piece

Antique chromolithograph devotional print titled "Die letzten Augenblicke Jesu Christi" (The Last Moments of Jesus Christ), with the French title "Le dernier soupir du Christ" also printed at the foot of the sheet. The central oval vignette depicts the Crucifixion of Christ flanked by the two thieves, with mourners including the Virgin Mary and Mary Magdalene at the foot of the cross. The oval is set within a lush chromolithographed border of roses, dahlias, and other flowers.

Imprint at the lower margin reads: "Druck Verlag u. Eigenthum v. Ed. Gust. May, in Frankfurt a. M." with plate number "451" at lower left and "gesetzlich deponirt" (legally registered/copyrighted) at lower right — a period German copyright notation.

Process: full-color chromolithography, consistent with commercial devotional prints of the 1870s–1900s.

Size: approx. 8.3 x 10.1 inches (image/printed area); the surrounding paper sheet extends beyond this.

Condition: Fair, as-found. The sheet shows notable edge chipping and paper loss along the left, right, and lower margins, with ragged/torn corners. General toning and foxing are present throughout, as typical of 19th-century paper. Colors within the central image and floral border remain bright and well-preserved. Please review photos closely, as they are part of the description.
