About this piece

PABST BLUE RIBBON DELIVERY TRUCKS — CHOICE BEVERAGE CO., COLUMBUS, MISSISSIPPI Circa 1939-1947

An original photograph, approximately 10 x 8 inches, of two Dodge delivery trucks outside a brick warehouse beside a rail line. One is a conventional cab, the other a cab-over.

The lead truck's box is hand-lettered "Pabst Blue Ribbon" in the brewery's script, with "CHOICE BEVERAGE CO. — Phone 824 — Columbus, Miss." on the lower panel and a Pabst Breweries roundel on the cab door. A painted sign on the building reads "Choice Beverage Co. — Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer."

Truck styling dates the photograph to roughly 1939-1947. The verso is blank.

References to Choice Beverage Co. of Columbus, Mississippi appear to be scarce, making this an unusually well-documented survival of a small Deep South distributorship that has otherwise left little trace.

PROVENANCE

From the estate of Jacqueline Diane McFarland (1943-2025) of Birmingham, Alabama, daughter of Jack McFarland, recorded in the 1950 United States Census as a wholesale beer distributor operating his own business. A companion 1948 Birmingham News press photograph of his own Falstaff fleet is listed separately along with other related photos and ephemera.
