About this piece
Antique Standard Fire Insurance Policy issued by The City Insurance Company of the City of Pittsburgh, Pa., written on a dwelling for Daisy and Viola B. Miller, $1,500 coverage, expiring February 6th, 1913. The folded cover has a fine engraved eagle holding a banner over shaded "City Insurance Company" lettering and the office address at the Columbia Bank Building, 248 Fourth Avenue. Folded size about 4.3 x 8.9 inches. Condition: used, with toning, staining, edge wear and fold creases typical of a policy kept folded for over a century.
The cover also carries a purple "PAID" stamp and a faint purple local agent's stamp for a Pennsylvania real estate, insurance and loans office. Inside are the printed forms for Assignment of Interest, Consent by Company and Receipt for Return Premium. The back panel lists the company's officers (John C. Reilly, President; Edward Kelly Jr., Vice-President; Alfred S. Bishop, Secretary) and thirteen directors.
A nice piece of Pittsburgh business history and early 20th-century insurance ephemera for collectors of Pennsylvania paper, banking and insurance memorabilia, or local genealogy.
