About this piece

Original sepia snapshot of six young men posed by a clapboard building on a duckboard walkway, about 4.6 x 2.9 inches. They wear riding breeches, wrapped puttees or leggings, boots and service-style shirts, and it appears to be a WWI-era US Army camp around 1917-1919, though there is no caption or readable insignia. Fair condition: removed from an album, with black album paper and glue on the back, chipped and torn edges, surface loss at the lower right, and creases.

Five men stand in a row in front of the building, some in wool service shirts and some in light undershirts, and one sits on the grass in front giving a playful salute. There are shrubs along the wall and a ladder or stair behind them.

The back is plain, apart from the album remnants and a small pencil number. No names, place or unit are written anywhere.

A nice candid camp-life image for WWI or US Army photo collectors.
