About this piece

This is the New Pittsburgh, a fold-out visitor guide and map issued by the Pittsburgh Convention and Visitors Bureau, 3001 Jenkins Arcade, Pittsburgh, Penna. 15222, and lithographed in Pittsburgh. About 3.2 x 8 inches folded. The cover is a lively red-and-white cartoon collage of city sights under a Renaissance City of America banner, with Plus: Map and visitor guide. Condition: light fold wear and minor edge toning; clean inside.

Inside, Pittsburgh: Renaissance City of America opens with a night skyline across the rivers, then text and photos on smoke and flood control, Point State Park and Gateway Center, Mellon Square Park, the Civic Arena with its retractable dome, the Alcoa and U.S. Steel-Mellon buildings, the Children's Zoo in Highland Park, Forbes Field, the American Wind Symphony barge and the Pittsburgh Playhouse. A Facts About Pittsburgh panel gives economy, transportation, schools (including Carnegie-Mellon), hospitals, culture and 1960 Census population figures, and the back carries the Pittsburgh historical marker and a Key to Our City graphic.

A colorful piece of the Pittsburgh Renaissance era, appealing to Steel City natives, Forbes Field and Civic Arena fans, and collectors of 1960s city promotion.
