About this piece

Fold-out brochure marking the restoration and reopening of the Stanley Theatre, Pittsburgh, on February 7, 1976, titled "Once again, Pittsburgh's centre of culture..." About 5.1 x 5 inches folded. Very good condition with a few small spots.

The cover shows the Stanley in 1928 with its marquee advertising Tom Mix and his horse Tony in person, and inside a 1976 view shows the marquee billing Michel Legrand live. The text recounts the theatre's February 27, 1928 opening as "Pittsburgh's Palace of Amusement" seating four thousand, memories from longtime staff of Sinatra, the Marx Brothers, Judy Garland and Dick Powell, and the 1965 American Legion convention held there.

A lovely piece of Pittsburgh theatre history from the building that later became the Benedum Center.
