About this piece
Lot of five original class photographs from Fairfax School, Cleveland Heights, Ohio, all from the school years of one student, Fred (Frederick J.) Braun: kindergarten (Kgn PM) plus the 3B, 4B, 5B and 6B classes. Each is captioned in white on the image with the class and "Fairfax School Cleveland Hts. O." Sepia prints, about 7 x 5 inches each. Toning and wear throughout; two have paper loss and scrapbook residue along the top edge and backs.
The backs are the real treasure. Fred signed or stamped his name on every one, and three list classmates row by row, including names such as Dorothy Lamson, Julian Mahler, Charles Comella, Evelyn Dworkin, Mitzi Gellhaus, Barbara Ackhart and Lawrence Margolas. One notes his teacher and is marked "Autographed Photograph," another reads "signed age 11," and the kindergarten print carries his name in blue crayon.
The clothing — knickers, knee socks, saddle oxfords and print dresses — fits the 1930s, and the kindergarten picture shows a toy fire truck and airplane up front.
A rare chance to keep one child's grade-school run together. Wonderful for Cleveland Heights history, Fairfax School alumni and genealogists searching these families.
