About this piece
Duquesne Light Company, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania — Quarterly Report to Stockholders with the chairman's letter dated October 30, 1953. Folded brochure, about 3.3 x 7.4 inches closed, printed in deep pink/red. Good used condition with fold lines from original folding and light edge wear.
The letter from Chairman of the Board Philip A. Fleger (printed signature) covers record nine-month sales, conversion of the Warwick Mine to continuous-mining equipment, labor talks with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, a rate case before the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, and the Atomic Energy Commission's approval of a joint study with Walter Kidde Nuclear Laboratories on producing electricity from atomic energy.
Inside: consolidated income statements and balance sheets for 1953 vs. 1952, plus electric operating statistics (kilowatt-hour sales to residential, commercial, industrial, street lighting and street railway customers).
The cover photograph shows the 1953 Industrial Electrical Exposition in Pittsburgh, where thirty-three manufacturers displayed electrical equipment. A nice piece of Pittsburgh utility and early atomic-power history.
