About this piece

Lot of 2 antique Illinois postcards, both mailed to Miss Marie Wallin of Normal, Illinois: an undivided-back view of Glen Oak Park, Peoria, posted 1906, and a V.O. Hammon view of the Lincoln Monument, Oakridge Cemetery, Springfield. Standard postcard size. Both posted with 1 cent Franklin stamps; corner and edge wear, light toning, condition varies.

• Fountain at Glen Oak Park, Peoria, Ill. Black and white undivided back, address only on the back, so the message is written on the front: "Hello Marie, I came to Peoria this morning and will return your card from here. Will write later." Postmarked Peoria Oct 1906 with a Normal, Ill. receiving mark. Creases in the upper right corner and lower right of the front, small stain on the back.
• Lincoln Monument, Oakridge Cemetery, Springfield, Ill. No. 907, V.O. Hammon Pub. Co., Chicago, divided back. Postmark date not legible. A newspaper clipping of a humorous poem, "Etymological" by Horace Dodd Gastit, credited to Harper's Weekly, is glued in the message area. Light wear and a faint postmark on the front sky.
