About this piece

Lot of 3 vintage chrome postcards from Cairo, Illinois and nearby: two interior views of Magnolia Manor (the kitchen and a bedroom) and Canadian geese at Horseshoe Lake, Olive Branch, Ill., near Cairo. Standard postcard size, about 3.5 x 5.5 inches. All three are unposted and carry the same handwritten note on the back, "Saw this with Evelyn..." with the names Dave, Phil and Ruth Ann and the date 1967. Condition is honestly fair: two cards have paper loss along the right edge on the front and one has surface loss on the back; see each card below and the photos.

• Magnolia Manor — Kitchen, Cairo, Ill., 28th St. & Washington Avenue. Period kitchen with cast-iron range, table set with bread and fruit, striped wood floor, and a costumed mannequin figure in a red head covering, plaid dress and white apron standing by the range. Charm Craft Publishers, St. Louis; Art Grossmann photo © 1962; 61592-B. Paper loss along the right edge of the front, small corner crease and wear.

• Magnolia Manor, Cairo, Illinois — bedroom with carved high-back bed, rocker and marble-top washstand; the back text ties the room to President U.S. Grant's visit. Keller Color, Clifton, N.J., made by Dexter; 34294-B. Surface loss at the upper left of the back takes a few words of the caption; corner wear.

• Canadian Geese — Horseshoe Lake, Olive Branch, Ill., near Cairo. Argro Foto & Postcard Co., St. Louis, "Topik-Color," No. 1154, Art Grossmann photo © 1965. Paper loss along the right edge of the front.
