About this piece

Large letter "Greetings from St. Louis, Missouri" linen postcard. Each block letter of ST. LOUIS is filled with a city view, including a monument, a conservatory and pool, a tower, civic buildings and a bridge, set against a black background with yellow flowers. Card number 132. Standard postcard size, linen finish. Posted in 1952 and in good used condition with light corner and edge wear, handwriting on the back and a stamp and postmark.

The back carries a short history of St. Louis and the imprint of the St. Louis Greeting Card Co., St. Louis, Mo., made in U.S.A. by E. C. Kropp Co., Milwaukee, Wis. It is postmarked St. Louis, Mo., in February 1952, with a pair of 1 cent George Washington stamps and a "Buy U.S. Savings Bonds, Ask Your Postmaster" slogan cancel.

The handwritten ink message, signed Norman, tells the folks back home that he arrived, had to take all his tests over again and passed, was sworn in about an hour before, and was leaving that night for San Diego. It is addressed to a family in Charleston, Illinois. A nice Korean War era piece of personal history on a classic large letter card.
