About this piece

Linen postcard captioned Group of "The Wagon Wheel Girls," New Salem State Park, Lincoln's New Salem, Illinois. Six waitresses in long period-style dresses and white aprons stand in front of a log building with flower beds and a rail fence. Published for Ira E. Owen, The Wagon Wheel Inn, Petersburg, Ill., as a Genuine Curteich-Chicago "C.T. Art-Colortone" card, number 9B-H1780. Standard postcard size, linen finish, unposted, in good used condition with light edge wear.

The back explains that the Wagon Wheel waitresses are attired in styles of the New Salem period, to give a true picture of the village as it was when Lincoln trod its paths, and that the park is near Petersburg on Highways 97 and 123, about 17 miles northwest of Springfield. No writing, stamp or postmark.

The Curt Teich code 9B dates the printing to 1939 by the publisher's numbering system. A nice piece for Lincoln, Illinois, restaurant advertising and occupational postcard collectors.
