About this piece
Vintage white-border postcard titled The Great White Throne, Zion National Park, Utah, a color view of the pale stone monolith rising behind red canyon walls with green trees in the foreground. Copyright 1917 A. Wilkes on the front; published by Gray News Co., Salt Lake City, Utah, C.T. American Art, Made in U.S.A., number R-78398. Standard size, about 3.5 x 5.5 inches. Postally used with a pencil message; light corner and edge wear and some toning.
Postmarked with a railway post office cancel that appears to read San Fran & Los Ang R.P.O., Tr 77, 1923, with an RMS marking and a green 1c Washington stamp. Addressed to Dr. W.T. Yocum (as best it reads), Mentone, Indiana. A small pencil number is written on the back.
The message is dated Los Angeles, Oct. 13, 1923. The writer is off for San Francisco at 10 p.m. that night, plans to come home by the northern route, and calls it one great trip.
A nice 1920s Zion view carried by railway mail, with a western-trip travel note.
