About this piece
An original 1919 snapshot photograph captioned in ink on the front "Sgt. Chapman in Hosp. 3/24/19," followed by a place that appears to read "Prüm, Ger." It shows a man seated on a wooden bench in front of a large multi-paned window, with what looks like a uniform coat and cap. About 4.7 x 3.4 inches. Condition: the image is heavily faded to a pale sepia, with a vertical crease and bent corner at the right edge, scattered foxing spots at left, and light surface wear.
Dated just a few months after the Armistice, the caption places this in post-WWI Germany during the American occupation, with a named sergeant in a hospital setting. A small documentary piece for WWI and Army of Occupation collectors or Chapman family genealogy.
