About this piece

Chrome postcard of the Allegheny Mountain Tunnel, showing the twin tunnel portals with "Allegheny Mountain" on the portal building, divided highway with 1950s cars, and fall foliage on the hillside above. Published by E. Madciff, Hershey, Pa.; printed as a Curteichcolor 3-D Natural Color Reproduction, code 7DK-614. Standard size, about 3.5 x 5.5 inches. Unposted and unwritten; clean with light corner wear.

The back caption reads: "The Allegheny Mountain Tunnel. Tunnels like these – in the Allegheny Mountain area – help the traveler to cross mountains, yet show the beauty of trees and the countryside."

The Curt Teich code 7DK dates the printing to 1957. A nice highway and turnpike-era roadside view with period automobiles at the tunnel entrance.
