Happy Birthday Postcard Pink Roses Green Bowl Gold Border Germany 1912 Damascus — photo 1 of 2

About this piece

An early embossed birthday postcard reading "A Happy Birthday" in red, with lush pink and coral roses spilling from a pale green bowl on a gold filigree stand, framed by a gold border with Art Nouveau corner accents. Standard size, about 5.5 x 3.5 inches, with a divided back. Used condition with light corner and edge wear, small brown spots on the back, and a faint pencil message.

The back is printed "Serie 1600 a. Printed in Germany" along the left edge. Postmarked Damascus, Ohio, Jan 27, 1912, with a green one-cent Franklin stamp. Addressed to Miss Mary Esther Burton, Salem, Ohio, R.D. #5. The faint pencil message, dated 1-27-1912 and addressed "Dear Cousin," mentions going to school Monday and wishes her a happy birthday; it appears to be signed by Alfaretta.

A pretty German-printed floral birthday greeting with good color and a clean Ohio postmark.
