About this piece

Antique printed postcard captioned "No. 913. Brock's Monument, Queenston Heights, Canada," showing the tall fluted column with its statue on top, the carved base and lion figures, and visitors among flower beds at the foot. Back reads "Published by the Nickels Co., Niagara Falls, N.Y." Standard size (about 5.5 x 3.5 in), divided back. Used and postally mailed; a small chip at the upper left corner and a bent, torn lower right corner are the main flaws.

Postmarked Salem, Ohio, Aug 1909 with a flag machine cancel and a green 1-cent Franklin stamp. Addressed to Miss Esther Burton, Salem, Ohio, R.R. #5, Care Ira Burton, and signed "Mabel Crum" at the bottom of the back; no other message.

Brock's Monument honors Sir Isaac Brock, killed at the Battle of Queenston Heights in the War of 1812, and stands above the Niagara River in Ontario. A nice Niagara-region souvenir view with an Ohio family mailing.
