Valentine Postcard Cupid Listening at Door Basket of Hearts Roses Embossed Ohio — photo 1 of 2

Photo 1 of 2

About this piece

An early embossed Valentine postcard reading "To my Valentine," showing a winged cupid with bow and quiver leaning against a doorway with his hand cupped to his ear, beside a basket spilling red hearts and pink roses, against gold floral wallpaper. The verse reads "I'm listening for the echo of love's old plea divine, that I have asked you Sweetheart; 'Please be my Valentine.'" Standard size, about 5.5 x 3.5 inches, with a divided back. Used condition with light corner and edge wear, a pencil name at the bottom front margin, and pencil marks in the stamp box on the back.

The back is printed "Valentine Series No. 1" along the left edge. It is hand-addressed in pencil to Mary Esther Burton, Salem, Ohio, with the playful message "Feb 14th. Who said who." No stamp or postmark, so it appears to have been hand-delivered.

A sweet cupid valentine with bright color, gold accents, and good embossing.
