About this piece
An early embossed Christmas postcard reading "A Merry Christmas" in gold, with a winged cherub holding blue ribbons strung with gold bells, sprigs of holly with red berries, and a scroll banner reading "May the sunshine of affection light to day!" on a textured white ground. Series number 305-R is printed at the lower left of the front. Standard size, about 5.5 x 3.5 inches, with a divided back. Used condition with light corner and edge wear, a few small spots on the back, and a faint pencil scrawl at the lower right of the front.
Posted with a Beloit, Ohio postmark dated Dec 24 (year partly legible, appears to be 1909) and a green one-cent Franklin stamp. Addressed to Miss Mary Esther Burton, Salem, O., R.D. 5, and signed simply "Edith."
Deep embossing shows through to the back, and the gold bells and pastel ribbons give it a festive, classic early-1900s look.
