About this piece
Antique "To My Valentine" embossed postcard showing a Dutch boy in a blue cap, patched baggy trousers and wooden shoes holding a big red heart, facing a smiling Dutch girl in a white bonnet, plaid skirt and clogs, with a small purple tulip and gold lettering. Back marked "Nation Valentine Series." Standard size (about 5.5 x 3.5 in), divided back with stamp box. Used, with light corner wear, some soiling at the lower center front and a faint pencil name.
The back reads "Feb. 14th, from Rupert" and is addressed only to "Mary Esther," so it was hand delivered; no stamp or postmark. "Rupert" is also penciled faintly on the front below the figures.
A sweet early Valentine from the Nation series of children in national costume, from a group of family cards to Mary Esther and Rupert Burton.
