About this piece

Antique Davidson Bros. New Year postcard, Series 1402, printed in Germany. Embossed white holly with red berries surrounds a snowy country scene of a horse-drawn cart passing thatched cottages at sunset, with the verse "Remembrance like the Ivy clings" and "Hearty New Year Wishes" in red. Silver-edged border. Standard size, divided back. Light edge wear and a small corner bend at upper right of the back; see photos.

Postmarked Salem, Ohio, January 4, 1911, with a flag machine cancel and green one-cent Franklin stamp, addressed to Salem R.D. 5. The sender's message is dated January 2nd, 1911, and mentions getting home, a close call for John and Walter, and grandma failing; a name is penciled in purple at lower right.

The back is printed Davidson Bros, London & New York, with the firm's trademark in the stamp area and a copyright line on the front. A nice dated Golden Age greeting with family content.
