About this piece

Antique Easter postcard reading "Joyful Easter," showing four chicks (three yellow, one dark) hatching from white, pink and pale green eggshells beneath a fringed red parasol, one chick holding a letter in its beak, framed by blue forget-me-nots with a wooden fence behind. Divided back marked "Serie 1520" and "Printed in Germany," standard size about 5.5 x 3.5 inches, unposted. Condition: bright colors and clean back, with light edge and corner wear and a small pencil notation in the stamp box.

The back carries the "POST CARD" heading in green with a stamp box reading "Place Stamp Here. United States and Canada One Cent. Foreign, Two Cents." No message, address or postmark. The divided back and German printing point to the years before World War I.

A cheerful example of the chick-and-egg Easter cards that filled family albums in the early 1900s.
