About this piece
Antique comic children postcard titled "A Nibble," numbered 122, showing two sunbonnet girls, faces hidden by their bonnets, fishing off a wooden dock with a red rowboat on the water behind them. A small copyright line is printed in the lower right corner of the image but is too faint to read. Divided back, standard size about 5.5 x 3.5 inches, posted. Condition: used, with edge and corner wear, light foxing spots in the white margin, and handwriting and pencil marks on the back.
Postmarked with a Salem, Ohio flag machine cancel dated March 14, 1910, with a green one-cent Franklin stamp. Addressed to Mary E. Burton, Salem, Ohio. The writer, dated Salem, asks "M.E." to tell her Ma to send the chain quilt at the first chance because she is stuck and can't tell how to put it together, asks after the little lambs, and adds she will write if she hears anything special from Barberton.
A charming early sunbonnet-style card with a homey quilting message, from a family correspondence group sent to the Burton family of Salem, Ohio.
