About this piece

Vintage chrome postcard, 1002, "Vanda Orchids, Hawaii (Vanda Miss Joaquim)." A vertical color view of a field of pink orchids with palm trees and island houses behind. Standard size, about 3.5 x 5.5 inches, with rounded corners, postally used in 1961. Condition is good with light edge and corner wear, minor surface scuffs, and a full handwritten message on the back.

Hawaiian Views, distributed by Max Basker & Sons, Honolulu. Ektachrome by Bud Thuener. Curteichcolor Art-Creation natural color reproduction.

Postmarked Honolulu, Hawaii, June 12, 1961, with a 7 cent red jet airmail stamp and an "Ability Counts" slogan cancel, addressed to Greenville, Illinois, R.F.D. The writer heads it "Hickam Field, Honolulu," says they arrived safely on the first lap of the trip, and mentions stopping next at Wake Island. A nice Hawaii travel card for orchid, island and aviation-era collectors.
