About this piece

Antique postcard of the M. E. Church, Franklin, Ill., captioned in red at upper right, printed in Germany. The sepia-toned view shows the white clapboard Methodist Episcopal church with its tall steeple, louvered belfry and round windows, a utility pole and lamp post in front, and neighboring houses and outbuildings. Standard size, about 3.5 x 5.5 inches. Postally used in 1909; light toning, minor corner wear, and a small pencil notation at the top of the back.

The divided back is marked "Printed in Germany" and carries a green 1 cent Franklin stamp with a Franklin, Ill. postmark dated Apr 6, 1909. Addressed to Mrs. Jennie Brewer, Modesto, Ill., the message reads "Dear Friend: How are you getting along. Don't you eat too many eggs Easter. Mama said hello. Ola D.", with "Franklin" written along the edge.

A nice small-town Methodist Episcopal church card for collectors of Morgan County and central Illinois history or genealogy.
