About this piece

Real photo postcard of the Presbyterian Church and Parsonage, Middletown, Ill., captioned along the bottom of the image. The view shows the brick church with its crenellated square tower and tall Gothic windows, the square two-story parsonage at left, a dirt street, utility pole and hitching post. Standard size, about 3.5 x 5.5 inches. Postally used in 1908; a small punched hole near the upper right, a Jacksonville receiving cancel on the front sky, light toning and minor corner wear.

The message appears to be from the new pastor: "Our new home on left of church. Am to be installed 17th. Both well. Best wishes & kindest regards W.P.C." It is addressed to Mrs. Holmes & Daughter, College Av., Jacksonville, Ill., with a green 1 cent Franklin stamp, a Middletown, Ill. postmark of Mar 11, 1908, and a Jacksonville, Ill. Mar 11, 1908 10 PM receiving mark.

A great small-town church and parsonage real photo with a message tying the sender to the pictured house, for collectors of Logan County and central Illinois history or Presbyterian church records.
