About this piece
Antique divided-back postcard captioned "First Baptist Church, Tampa, Fla.", showing the earlier red brick church with its arcaded bell tower, corner towers and rows of arched stained glass windows, a tall utility pole, street lamp and fire hydrant in front. Published by International Post Card Co., New York, No. 769, Made in Germany; back number (53866). Standard size, about 3.5 x 5.5 inches. Used condition with corner wear, light edge wear and toning.
Postally used with a Tampa, Fla. flag machine cancel dated Mar 19 (year partly legible, 191_), with a green 1 cent Franklin stamp. Addressed to Mrs. H.C. Smith, Tolono, Ill., Champaign Co. The faint pencil message is headed "Tampa, Fla., Mch. 19" and appears to mention liking Tampa very much; it is hard to read in places.
A pre-1920 view of the church's earlier building, for Tampa, Hillsborough County and Florida Baptist collectors.
